Bought this for my daughter to take to England for graduate school, and she found it very versatile. It holds a lot, and even though it doesn’t stand up by itself, she didn’t have a problem with it as she traveled. She likes the fact that it collapses almost flat to store beneath her bed at school, since storage is at a premium in her dormitory. She is also able to use it as an under-the-bed container so she can store some infrequently-used items that would have overfilled her dresser drawers. Items stay covered and clean, and she just rolls it out when she needs something. She also appreciated that the piece itself didn’t use up much of the 50-lb weight limit per suitcase that the airline allowed. Since she was primarily trying to transport enough clothing for 18-months abroad, the soft sides weren’t an issue — she also took a regular suitcase and placed her more fragile items in that./p

This bag held up well travelling as a rolling carryon on a medium-length trip with a plane change, 3 other carryons, a car seat and a baby. So you can guess it got a little abuse on the trip, but it held up fine. No problems with the single strut handle or the wheels. It never once did that annoying flip/roll that my carryons sometimes do.br /br /I didn’t think I’d like the way the laptop is contained in the bag: the pocket is in the front flap instead of the back of the bag. But it worked just fine and my fears of the laptop slipping out when I opened the bag were unfounded. I have a big, heavy 17 Toshiba monster and it fit perfectly, along with all my other equipment. br /br /The only complaint I would have is that with the weight of the bag, computer and accessories, I did not even attempt to use it as a backpack and I’m not sure I ever would./p

I got this bag at the last minute because I realized that I didn’t have enough luggage for a 3-week trip. I trekked this bag all over Mexico and it held up really well. It’s cheap enough that I could care less about any damage. However, it appears to have suffered no damage at all despite being abused by myself and the airlines. It actually seems like it will hold up really well. I was debating whether to get this bag or the other High Sierra. Can’t tell you about that bag, but this one fit the bill perfectly. I was even able to strap my North Face duffel on top and wheel both bags together. I am very satisfied with this purchase.br /br /My only gripes are that the pull out handle doesn’t seem long enough and there is no long luggage strap (so you can put the bag over your shoulder to carry up stairs). Both issues were minor and shouldn’t discourage you from purchasing this bag./p
